Rock ‘n’ Roll Song Designer

About Romania 1.02.2010

romania

It all went very well! Both gigs were full and the people reacted to Ostava very warmly, without any distance or pretence. They embraced our music almost right away and both concerts ended with an encore.

The trip was a little bit too much, because it was cold as hell, especially when going to the first city – Cluj (it’s in Transylvania, their richest province, closer to Hungary). We drove 13 hours to reach it, but it was fun, the jokes saved the day. Cluj is a very cool city, perhaps a little bigger than Plovdiv, with so much culture from Austro-Hungary, museums, cathedrals and universities (100 thousand students)!

The concert there took place on the next night in Irish-Music Pub. There were around 200 people, which is an achievement, considering the temperature outside: -15ºC. KUMM introduced us to the audience in Romanian and off we went. Initially there was a moment of getting to know each other, but as Svilen said, after the third song, we had them! It went very well – we played for an hour, then encore and “Ping Pong” to end our set. The sound was decent, KUMM was very good and… at home. Everything ended with easy drinking and conversations with KUMM in a very colourful bar on 4 floors, each one with a different kind of music.

The next day – breakfast and coffee, a full day of travelling to Bucharest, then rest and sleep in brand new student dorms. So new, that they didn’t have anything except clean sheets, beds, desks and bathroom.

We spent the next day in a light walk around Bucharest, with a lunch for trying out Romanian food, and preparation for the evening. The concert was in a gallery, which also acts as a bar during the day. It is situated in a famous Romanian museum, in a building formerly used as residence for Ceauşescu. At night all tables are removed (there is a stage in one corner) and room is freed for the visitors. There were around 300 people. Again, everything went great for us and again ended with an encore. Currently, KUMM has a new album out and its single is pretty successful, it was evident as the people knew and sang it. The track is called “Pop Song” and we hope it will air on Z-Rock soon. The whole concert ended with a version of… “Creep” and big gratitude from KUMM. Oygan – KUMM’s guitarist, made me show him “Mexico” and played it all the time during their rehearsals.

All in all, many thanks from us to KUMM and the Romanian audience. What we will try to do is one or more concerts here in BG, and on their side they have an idea for us to play together in their biggest club for about 2000 people. Besides, we already have an invitation from the owner of the place in Bucharest, to visit whenever we like, which is a good start!

Regards from Ostava, see you soon!
